Campus and Community Involvement
Service
Alongside promoting osteoporosis awareness, we participate in a number of other community service projects within each individual chapter. From feeding the homeless to helping build houses for those less fortunate than ourselves, sisters of Delta Phi Lambda are more than happy to lend a helping hand to our communities. We feel that by helping our surrounding communities it nurtures our innerselves, aiding in our development as strong female community leaders.
Below are but a few examples of some of the services that we have participated in.

Community Clean-up
We care a lot about our community and to show it, we try to help out when we can. Community Clean-up is a program offered by the university that allows for us to go out to a specific location and restore it back to its original conditions. Though littering is against the law, it still happens. We work to keep the Normal community clean of trash, and give back to our community.

Fundraisers for Relief
On March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by an earthquake that registered as a 9.0. A tsunami followed the earthquake, as well as a nuclear meltdown. Japan was devastated. Many of the Delta Phi Lambda chapters worked to raise money to help Japan recover from the disaster. At ISU, we sold wristbands for donation. We also helped out the Japanese Student Association hold a benefit that helped to raise over $400 for Japan in just one night. Our hearts are with those that were affected by the disaster and wish them the best with the recovery process.
Habitat for Humanity
We try to participate in building for Habitat for Humanity at least once a year. It gives us a chance to bond together as well as help out the Normal community. Habitat for Humanity relies heavily on volunteer services and are always in need of a helping hand.

Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home is a local homeless shelter that we volunteer at. We have done everything from prepping food, serving food, and packaging food for later use. This homeless shelter is run entirely on volunteers, so we are always happy to lend a hand.

Manor Care
Manor Care is a nursing home on campus. In the past, we have had sisters that worked at Manor Care. The residents go through a routine daily schedule, so we volunteer to go in and play bingo with the residents. It gives them something not in the monotony, and it is always a blast. The residents are kind and always happy to see us.
Relay for Life
Every year we participate in Illinois State University's Relay for Life. Relay for Life is a relay from the American Cancer Society. We set up a tent on the quad and join hundreds of other students as we support the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer. We remember those that we lost and celebrate those who have won the battle. In the months leading up to the Relay, we work to raise money to donate to the cause.
Trick-or-Treat for Change
Every year on Halloween, we go from house to house asking for monetary donations for cause. It is not limited to osteoporosis as we have donated to Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life in the past. Plus, its a nostalgic trip of being a child going door to door for candy as a kid.

3k and 5k Walks
We are often invited to participate in walks that are either designed to raise money or awareness for a cause. Since we cannot adopt every cause for a philanthropy, walks act as a great medium. We are still able to support a cause without taking from our main philanthropy osteoporosis. Not to mention, walking is an easy exercise, and even better when surrounded by sisters.
Bike-a-thons
Just like there are walks and runs to help raise money or awareness for a cause, there are also bike-a-thons. With our campus's new Rec center, we are able to participate in bike-a-thons whether or not we own bikes. Like walks, it allows for us to support other philanthropies, and allows for the sisters to practice healthy habits!
Social Events
The Delta Phi Lambda chapter at ISU has been very involved in the ISU community. Since our establishment, we have had mixers with numerous Greek and non-Greek organizations. We also try to mingle with the Asian community in the Bloomington/Normal area. These socials give us an opportunity to network, establish life-long friendships, and spread Asian awareness in the community.
Cultural Organizations on Campus
Delta Phi Lambda as part of APAC, JSA, and KSA
The ladies of Delta Phi Lambda work closely with many of the cultural organizations on campus. Recently, sisters have served on the executive boards of Asian Pacific American Coalition, Japanese Student Association, and Korean Student Association. We work with the Diversity Advocacy on campus. We try to attend as many events as we can, and are looking to reach out to the other Asian-interest organizations as well.
Greek Socials
Illinois State University is home to many Greek organizations. As a member of the Multicultural Greek Council, we have connections not only with other culture based fraternities and sororities, but to the members of the Panhellenic Association, the Interfraternity Council (IFC), and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). We have the ability to learn of upcoming events hosted by other Greeks and we try to attend to help support our Greek community. Sometimes we may plan a social with another Greek chapter, where we meet up for some type of event such as a game night or a dinner party. Greek socials are not limited to just the Greeks on campus. For example, we may plan a social with an Asian-interest fraternity from University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Socials give us the opportunity to meet new people and expand on relationships with people with which we share a commonality.
